Agia Varvara Beach
Overview
Agia Varvara Beach is a charming sandy beach located 41 km east of Heraklion, nestled between Malia and Sissi in Crete. The beach derives its name from the nearby church dedicated to Saint Barbara. A small islet bearing the same name lies opposite the bay, accessible by swimming; however, swimmers should be cautious of strong currents in the area. The beach is well-organized, offering umbrellas and sunbeds, and is adorned with tamarisk trees that provide natural shade. Like many northern Cretan beaches, Agia Varvara can be affected by northwest winds, leading to wavy conditions.
