Overview

Ancient Falasarna was a powerful maritime city in western Crete. It was founded around the 6th century BC and flourished in the Hellenistic era.Its most impressive feature was the artificial “closed port.”\n\rThis port was carved into rock like a pool, protected by towers and strong walls. It was connected to the sea via channels and could be sealed for defense.Today, the port lies about 9 meters above sea level due to seismic uplift.Remnants of docks, towers, and ship mooring marks are still visible.Entrance to the archaeological site is free.\n\rThe location combines historical interest with stunning scenery. It’s situated near the famous beach of Falasarna.
