Overview

The Aposelemis Dam is located in eastern Crete, near the village of Avdou, approximately 32 km south of Heraklion. The dam was completed in 2012 and is the largest water management project on Crete. Its purpose is to provide potable water and irrigation for areas in Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos. The reservoir formed by the dam varies in water level, and the village of Sfendili, which was submerged, reappears during certain times. The area is tranquil, ideal for hiking and nature enthusiasts.
