Overview

The Archaeological Museum of Chania is located in the suburb of Chalepa, the most important historic district of Chania after the Venetian urban core. It is constructed on a plot of land covering 12 acres, with a total area of space measuring approximately 6,000 m2 and with a magnificent view over much of the city, especially the seafront. The Museum collects, preserves, maintains, stores, researches, publishes, exhibits archaeological objects on its premises and as loans to other museums, while at the same time it organizes educational programs and cultural events. As a regional museum, it offers a representative picture of the rich cultural identity of the regional unity of Chania, from 700,000 BC to the 4th century AD.
