Overview
Ancient Lato, located about 15 kilometres west of Agios Nikolaos, is one of the most important archaeological sites in Crete. It was founded in the 7th century BC and stood as a powerful city-state for many centuries. The archaeological site is situated in a spectacular location, overlooking the bay of Mirabello. The ruins of buildings, walls and temples reveal the high architectural craftsmanship of the inhabitants of Latousia. The isolation of the site and the quietness of the place create a unique atmosphere that takes you back in time.
