The Early Christian Basilica of Almyrida is a significant archaeological monument dating back to the second half of the 6th century AD. It is located near the village of Almyrida, in the Apokoronas region, east of Chania.\n\rThis is a three-aisled basilica with a wooden roof and a transverse aisle, forming a T-shaped floor plan. The central aisle preserves impressive mosaic floors featuring motifs such as crosses, fish, and intersecting circles .\n\rExcavations were carried out from 1974 to 1989 by the 13th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, revealing the base of the Holy Altar, the octagonal pulpit base, and Corinthian-style column capitals .The basilica stands as a notable example of early Christian architecture in Crete, offering visitors a unique insight into the history and art of the period.
