Overview

Filaki Beach is Crete's only officially designated naturist beach, located approximately 3 km east of Chora Sfakion. Managed by the Vritomartis Naturist Resort, it offers a clothing-optional environment where nudity is expected and embraced. The name "Filaki," meaning "prison" in Greek, reflects its secluded and protected setting, which historically served as a refuge during wartime.\n\rThe beach features a mix of pebbles and shingle, with crystal-clear blue waters ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and spearfishing. Facilities include sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, toilets, and a beach bar offering refreshments and snacks. A short walk from the beach leads to a small chapel dedicated to Saint Charalambos, providing panoramic views of the bay.\n\rFilaki Beach is accessible by car, public bus from Chania to Chora Sfakion, taxi, or a short hike from Chora Sfakion. While the beach is primarily frequented by naturists, visitors are not required to participate if they prefer to remain clothed. The combination of natural beauty, tranquil atmosphere, and naturist-friendly environment makes Filaki Beach a unique destination on Crete's southern coast.
