Overview

Karavopetra Beach is a quiet and scenic beach located about 3 km west of Paleochora, in the Gialos area of southern Crete. \n\rThe beach takes its name from a large rock that resembles a ship ("karavopetra" in Greek), which rises dramatically from the sea. This unorganized beach features coarse sand and small pebbles, and its crystal-clear waters make it ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The beach is part of a series of natural coves stretching toward Cape Grammenos.\n\rAlthough there are no sunbeds or beach bars, Karavopetra offers a peaceful and authentic seaside experience. Visitors should be cautious as the water gets deep quickly and the area is sometimes affected by southern winds. Nearby, Plakaki cove offers more protection and is great for a quiet dip. The landscape is rugged and natural, ideal for photography or relaxing in nature.\n\rKaravopetra is easily accessible by car and is a great choice for travelers who enjoy exploring lesser-known, untouched beaches. Basic accommodation and local tavernas are available a short distance away, especially in Paleochora.
