Karavostasi Beach
Overview
Karavostasi Beach is the westernmost beach of Kalo Chorio, situated approximately 12 kilometers southeast of Agios Nikolaos in the Mirabello province of eastern Crete. This tranquil beach features a mix of sand and pebbles, with a rocky seabed in certain areas. Tamarisk trees along the shore provide natural shade, enhancing the serene atmosphere.\n\rAccess to Karavostasi Beach is via an asphalt road from Istron, which ends near historical agricultural warehouses known as "chionas." These structures were once used for storing goods before they were shipped from the adjacent small port, giving the beach its name—Karavostasi, meaning "ship dock." Today, some of these warehouses remain, with at least one restored for tourist accommodation. \n\rThe beach remains relatively undeveloped, offering a peaceful alternative to the more frequented nearby beaches like Agios Panteleimonas and Voulisma. Its calm waters and natural surroundings make it an ideal spot for visitors seeking tranquility away from crowded tourist areas.
