Kountoura Beach
Overview
Kountoura Beach, also known locally as Agia Kyriaki, is a quiet and secluded beach located about 7 kilometers west of Paleochora, in the Gialos area of southern Crete. It lies just west of the Grammeno Peninsula and is known for its natural, unspoiled character. The beach stretches for around 700 meters and features mostly pebbles and stones along its shore. Its clear and shallow waters make it ideal for swimming and snorkeling. \n\rDue to its location near greenhouse farms, the area remains relatively undeveloped and uncrowded, making it a perfect escape for those seeking peace and simplicity. Kountoura Beach is accessible by car via the coastal road from Paleochora. There are no organized facilities on the beach, so visitors should bring their own essentials. \n\rNearby, in the Grammeno area, there are a few tavernas, a campsite, and accommodations available. Kountoura offers a raw, authentic beach experience away from the hustle and bustle of more touristy spots.
