The Lighthouse of Chania is one of the most iconic and photographed landmarks in Crete. It stands at the entrance of the Venetian Harbor of Chania and is one of the oldest lighthouses in the Mediterranean, with a history dating back to the 16th century. \n\rHistory & Architecture\n\rOriginally built by the Venetians (16th century) and reconstructed by the Egyptians (19th century), giving it its Minoan-inspired design.\n\rThe 21-meter-high tower resembles a minaret and offers stunning views of the harbor and city.\n\rWhile entry inside the lighthouse is not allowed, walking along the breakwater to its base is a fantastic experience, especially at sunset.
