Margaritsano Gorge

The Margaritsano Gorge in the prefecture of Rethymnon is located near the village of Margarites and is about 30 km from Rethymno. Formed from 8-10 million years old limestone rocks as a result of the gradual uplift of the whole area and water erosion, the Margaritsano Gorge is full of a wide variety of fauna and flora, such as cypresses, low shrubs, wild flowers and aromatic plants.
