The Minoan palace of Zakros is one of the most important archaeological finds in Crete and a living monument to Minoan civilization. It is located on the eastern side of the island, in an area of outstanding natural beauty and rich history.The palace of Zakros was an important centre of administration, trade and religious ceremonies. Its location, together with the port of the area, made it a strategic point for maritime transport and trade with other civilizations.The architecture of the palace is impressive, with numerous rooms, courtyards and storerooms. The finds that have been discovered at the site, such as vases, tools, jewellery and frescoes, reveal the high art and culture of the Minoans. The site is open to visitors, although most of the finds are kept in museums in Heraklion, Sitia and Agios Nikolaos.
