Heraklion City, Heraklion, Crete
Overview
Paliokastro (or Paleokastro) is a pebble beach 14 km west of Heraklion, nestled at the mouth of a green valley near the village of Rogdia. Surrounded by cliffs and facing east, it’s sheltered and scenic. A large limestone rock to the east once held a Venetian fortress, built on the ancient town of Kytaeon’s acropolis, to guard the bay. Popular with Heraklion locals, it’s a favorite family beach spot.
